Paul Dodd
PRESENTER/CHAIR
Paul presents music from the 70s every Thursday evening from 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm
When did you join GHR?:
I joined in August 1997
How did you get involved and why?:
In those days, you applied and were interviewed for a position. I was the Entertainments Manager for the Warrant Officers and Senior Rates mess in HMS Dolphin, where the studios were based, and I had been on the operating table at Haslar Hospital seven times. Haslar enabled me to walk following a motorbike crash and a fractured spine, so I just wanted to give something back. Years later, I had the honour to present the last show from the War Memorial portals in and from Haslar itself, before the move to Thorngate, where we are now.
Tell us a few interesting facts about yourself.
Having been a submariner for all of my naval career, now in my 60s, I’m still connected to the Navy, only teaching this time. My wife and I were Foster carers for 15 years for children with severe challenging behaviour.
Who or what has been your greatest inspiration?
Those Foster children have been in the deepest dark places and still come out the other side, trying to fit into society.
Who would you have most liked to meet but never did?
Einstein, I would love to know what sparks his ideas and where his thoughts come from.
What are your three desert island discs?
I would have to choose Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrel ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’; Nicole Scherzinger’s ‘I Want You Back’ and ‘Merlin’ by Rick Wakeman.

CJ Denecia
PRESENTER/STATION DIRECTOR
CJ presents a variety of music with his American perspective every Tuesday from 4:00 – 5:00pm and then hosts his rock show every Saturday morning from 11:00am – noon
When did you join GHR? January 2024
How did you get involved and why?:
In late 2023, as I was about to undertake retirement, I knew I’d have to have something engaging to do with some of my newfound free time. I saw a notice online that Gosport Hospital Radio was looking for volunteers, and the announcement aligned perfectly with my skill set and interests, so here I am!
Tell us a few interesting facts about yourself
I’ve been a singer, songwriter and musician for the last 50+ years and was once signed to an independent record label who thought my songwriting partner and I were “now soon” I never made it big but I still have the bug and am part of a local acoustic trio called M3M.
Who or what has been your greatest inspiration?
To be honest, I have none, or actually, too many to mention! From my Dad, to Robert Plant to Howard Stern (American Shock Jock) and so many in between.
Who would you have most liked to meet but never did?
I’m not sure, I’ve never really thought about it. I’ve met a lot of people from a lot of different places and walks of life so I guess I’d like to meet YOU!
What are your three desert island discs?
Led Zeppelin IV, The Beatles Blue Album (1967-70) and Aerosmith, Toys in the Attic. (that’s today, tomorrow’s answer may change!)

Lorna Hart
PRESENTER/SECRETARY
Lorna presents Hart to Hart, Thursday afternoons, 2:00 – 3:00 pm
When did you join GHR?
I joined Gosport Hospital Radio in April 2023.
How did you get involved and why?
My friend Kevin, a member of the radio station, suggested it might suit me, as he knows I love talking. I used to be on my school radio and loved it – we used to get requests and have special themed days. Unfortunately, I have had ill health for the past few years, and I also felt volunteering would be a great way of developing my confidence and becoming part of a team. I loved the atmosphere at GHR and still do.
Tell us some interesting facts about yourself.
I almost won the lottery once but chose a lucky dip instead of my normal numbers. I loved dancing as a child, especially tap dancing, and appeared in many stage shows. Despite my teenage years being in the 90s I have a great love of 70s music.
Who is your inspiration?
Apart from my mum, Steve Wright is my inspiration. He was such a fantastic DJ, his Friday jocking was so upbeat and fast-paced.
What three songs would you choose on a desert island?
It would have to be ‘Macarthur Park’ by Donna Summer, ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams and ‘I Didn’t Know My Own Strength’ by Whitney Houston

Sean Blackman
PRESENTER
Sean plays an hour of music, hymns, interviews and a Thought for the Week every Sunday morning, 10:00 – 11:00 am
When did you join GHR? January 2020
How did you get involved and why?
When I left college, I found it challenging to get a job in acting. I needed to work on my voice technique, and radio had always been interesting to me, so I searched online for a local radio station, and Gosport Hospital Radio came up. Once I’d met the team and found out what the station was all about, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. And now, years later, I’m still here and enjoying it very much.
Tell us a few interesting facts about yourself.
When disco was at its peak in the 70s, I was a DJ at The Tricorn Club in Portsmouth. I can also ride a bike backwards, and once jumped out of a plane for charity.
Who or what has been your greatest inspiration?
Oscar Wilde – he always had something witty, pithy or profound to say about everything.
Who would you have most liked to meet but never had the chance to?
Simon Cowell – I’d love to find out about his rise to fame and success. But also the heartache and difficult times behind the scenes.
What are your three desert island discs?
‘Captain of a Shipwreck’ by Neil Diamond, ‘Rescue Me’ by Fontella Bass, and ‘Living On An Island’ by Status Quo.

Bob Whitbread
PRESENTER
Bob presents two hours of music and memories from the 50s and 60s every Tuesday 1:30pm – 3:30pm
When did you join GHR?
I joined in November 2017.
How did you get involved and why?
A few years after I retired I started a mobile Disco for more elderly people and all funds I received went to local charities. I spotted a notice with Gosport Hospital Radio’s details, made enquiries and joined in November 2017. I think it is a great little charity and hopefully we make people feel happier and not so alone. I think the radio is still one of the greatest medias – I started producing my own live shows in 2018 and still enjoy every moment.
Tell us a few interesting facts about yourself
I was born in Canada. Later in life I joined the Royal Navy, married an English girl and have lived in Gosport since 1970. I have always enjoyed music – in my early days I was a drummer but strictly amateur.
Who or what has been your greatest inspiration?
I always enjoyed art and one of my favourite artists was Van Gogh – his life was so full of tragedies.
Who would you have most liked to meet but never did?
I suppose ever since I was a child I loved Glen Miller and Ella Fitzgerald and still do today..
What are your three desert island discs?
‘Keep on Running’ by The Spencer Davies Group; ‘Walk On The Wild Side’ by Jimmy Smith from his 1962 live show and ‘Threshold Of A Dream (Lovely To See You Again)’ by The Moody Blues.
Andy M
PRESENTER
Andy presents AM in the PM on Wednesdays, 4-5 pm and played again on Sundays 7-8pm – an eclectic assortment of hits from the early 2000’s going back to the 50’s, including show tunes, film scores, some forgotten gems and memorable hits, with a few themed shows added in.
Andy also presents Love Songs on Sunday 6-7pm Where he will play some of the greatest love songs ever recorded.
When did you become a member of GHR? January 2025
How did you get involved and why?
After spending a week as an inpatient, not in Gosport, and having no outside communication or access to a radio on the ward, I wanted to stop others from feeling that isolation, so I contacted the studio, and here we are now, trained and presenting 2 shows!
Also, to give something back to the local community and share my love and stupid knowledge of music, I have been told on many, many occasions that I have the face for radio!
Tell us a few interesting facts about yourself.
I used to deliver milk to Joe and Sam Brown, John Lord, who was a founding member of Deep Purple, and I served Jim Capaldi, a founding member of Traffic, in a high street bank.
I also had football trials for Southampton and Chelsea as a 15-year-old.
I used to write comedy – people laughed when I told them!
I am fascinated with how music can change a mood, evoke a memory or a feeling and make us stop what we are doing and loose ourselves in our thoughts, memories and dreams, it reduces us to tears, both of joy and sadness and to sing and dance like no one is watching – and so it should!!!
Who or what has been your greatest inspiration?
My Mum, my Nan, and now my Wife.
Who would you have most liked to meet but never did?
Freddie Mercury or David Bowie – absolute legends.
I think Ricky Ross from Deacon Blue is highly underrated as both a writer and singer, and I have had the pleasure of meeting him and getting a signed copy of his songbook.
What are your three desert island discs?
If I can tweak the rules and take albums, they would be –
Deacon Blue – Raintown
Guns N Roses – Appetite for Destruction
Paul Simon – Graceland

Dave Dick
PRESENTER
‘Disco Dave’ presents a weekly Surprise Surprise show on Fridays at 4:00pm
When did you join GHR?
After seeing an advert for GHR I applied and started broadcasting in September last year.
How did you get involved and why?
I fancied the idea as I have always loved music and am still doing discos at the ripe old age of 75.
Tell us a few interesting facts about yourself.
My first gigs were at St. Mary’s Church hall in the High Street – I was about 17. I was Dave the Rave and the other DJ was President Chuck. We booked the hall and it was called The Big G Discotheque. Nothing much happened until I moved away to Aylesbury in 1982. I helped out a disco and started getting bookings and after hiring equipment made the move to buy my own. I was out about 60 to 70 times a year until we moved back to Gosport nearly 10 years ago. I did about eight gigs last year.
I lead a very active life. I play golf twice a week and am the treasurer of a local charity. I sit on the board of the Gosport Community Association and have three allotments.
Who or what has been your greatest inspiration?
No one has ever inspired me – I tend to take life as it comes, stay busy, and be helpful to others.
Who would you have most liked to meet but never did?
I can’t think of anyone that I particularly want to meet, but I’m really into Arcade Fire, Bruce Springsteen, Deacon Blue, The Temptations and Fleetwood Mac. A dinner party with all of them would be interesting!
What are your three desert island discs?
‘Do I Love You’ by Frank Wilson; ‘Light My Fire’ by The Doors and ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’ by Sam Cooke. I also love Otis Redding and Prince, but I can only have three, can’t I!

Jay Palmer
PRESENTER
Jay presents her Tea Time Mix on a Tuesday afternoon between 5 and 6pm which mainly covers the post punk 70s through the 80s to the Brit pop era of the 90s, often having featured artists and birthdays. She also presents on Saturdays between 1 and 2pm, Number 1s at `1.
When did you join GHR? I joined in August 2024 and started the Tea Time Mix in September 2024.
How did you get involved and why?
I saw an advert on Facebook and my other half said to me that I should apply because of my wide range of music taste and knowledge.
Tell us a few interesting facts about yourself
I’m a shareholder in around 50 racehorses. I have in the past had a winner at the Cheltenham Festival in March (Stage Star), Royal Ascot (Create Belief) and also had a second in the Grand National (Balko Des Flos). I remember that day very well as it was the day history was made when Racheal Blackmore was the first woman to win the race, I didn’t even know who had won as was cheering our horse on. I am also a supporter of my local football club, the mighty Gosport Borough. I was there the day they went to Wembley and my daughter Lou was a mascot when they hosted Colchester in the first round of the FA Cup. I have also stood in the past for election as a Gosport Borough Councillor which is where I first met our former Chairman, Bob Whitbread so when I joined Gosport Hospital Radio it was nice to see a familiar face.
Who or what has been your greatest inspiration?
Must be my dad, Ron, he was chairman of the Junior Rates Club at HMS Collingwood for probably 20+ years (from early 70s onwards). In that time he had most of the top Radio 1 DJs , big name bands from the 60s (Marmalade, Drifters etc) and through to the 80s, even had Black Lace there, and the whole club were on their feet dancing to “Agadoo”. When we were at home the radio was always on or music of some kind or another and choice of music really impressed me and I had learnt I could look at a record and tell you what the label was, this lead to me being a collector of records in the future at one stage I had over 30,000 records. Unfortunately he is no longer with us, he passed away in 1998.
Who would you have most liked to meet but never had the chance to?
Would have loved to have met Jimi Hendrix but he died before I was born, one of my great guitar heroes. I would also love to have met Freddie Mercury as I think he is probably the greatest showman/singer/writer ever. Would have liked to have met George Michael as he was my biggest heartthrob from the 80s.
What are your three desert island discs?
Singles – Summer of 69 Bryan Adams, my all time favourite. Stairway to Heaven Led Zeppelin, to me one of the greatest songs ever recorded and something cheesy to keep me singing all day long.
Albums – Reckless Bryan Adams because I love the man and his music. Dark Side of the Moon Pink Floyd again because I love that album and probably Beatles White Album.

Sarah Day
PRESENTER
Sarah presents her show, Sarah’s Pick N Mix, on Mondays between 1 and 2 pm, where you can hear a mixture of great music from the 1950s right up to the present time, along with fun trivia. Same Sarah, Different Day is on a Wednesday from 1 to 2 pm, featuring the same eclectic mix of music, more trivia, and Just For Fun competitions.
When did you join GHR?
November 2024, but only went live on air in March 2025.
How did you get involved and why?
I’ve always wanted to be involved in TV or radio, but in 2020, I started a very successful podcast, which is similar, kind of! I then saw an ad online for volunteers, contacted them, and the rest, as they say, is history. I haven’t regretted the decision… yet!
Some interesting facts about myself!
I’m a published author, and words, grammar, and spelling are my passions… in an almost OCD way. I love writing, and I also do many crafts. I love learning new things and then passing them on to other people….hence the trivia parts of my shows.
Inspirations.
I’m not sure anyone famous is inspirational to me, but my kids definitely are. They’re all totally amazing in their own unique ways.
Who would I have liked to meet but never did?
Again, I’m not sure there is anyone. I’m sure, given enough time, I could think of someone, but I’m not sure you have enough time for me to think!
What is my favourite type of music?
Absolutely anything and everything, depending on the mood I’m in at the moment. I couldn’t pick one or two particular songs or bands or musicians.
Tom Ridley
PRESENTER
Tom presents an eclectic range of tunes, with a focus on rock and indie, in his Tuesday night show from 8:00 – 9:00 pm
When did you join GHR?
At the start of 2024.
How did you get involved and why?
I saw an advert on Facebook which got my cogs whirring. I love music and was looking to get out of my comfort zone and try something new.
Tell us a few interesting facts about yourself.
I was fourth hardest in infant school and I invented the exclamation mark. I also make stuff up sometimes!
Who or what has been your greatest inspiration?
Outside of music and comedy, probably my parents – my mum’s tenacity and organisation, and my dad’s balanced, calm view on the world.
Who would you have most liked to meet but never did?
Probably my grandad. He was around when I was young, but I don’t remember him that well and would like to have known him better, as I know he was a good man.
What are your three desert island discs?
Are there any more perfect pop songs than Franz Ferdinand’s ‘Take Me Out’; ‘Hash Pipe’ by Weezer or Elbow ‘One Day Like This’?

Vikki Thompson
PRESENTER
Vikki hosts her ‘Toe Tapping’ show on Mondays from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., featuring Irish, country music, and more.
When did you join GHR?
I joined as a volunteer presenter in September 2023.
How did you get involved and why?
I saw an advertisement on Facebook and got involved because I love fundraising, and being part of a friendly, fun, and supportive family was ideal for me. I am blind and deaf, but that does not stop me from training and learning everything I can about how the station works. Working at the station has boosted my confidence, and I get to socialise with a variety of people from all walks of life. I have felt very welcomed into the team.
Tell us a few interesting facts about yourself
My interests outside the station are listening to music, going to the theatre and cinema, and I love horror movies. I also enloy making people smile or laugh. I started on the trainee show on Fridays and now have my own show called VT’s Toe Tapping Hour, playing Irish, Country and other music on Mondays from 2.00-3.00pm. I love the show I do because it’s the music of my childhood.
Who or what has been your greatest inspiration?
I’d love to interview Enrique Iglesias as I’ve been a big fan since he released his first UK single ‘Bailamos’ in 1998 and have seen him twice in concert, so it would be great to meet him.
Who would you have most liked to meet but never had the chance to?
I’d love to chat with Dolly Parton, The Judds and Smokie as they are some of my favourite singers. They are all still around, so maybe one day, who knows!
What are your three desert island discs?
This is a hard one because I love all types of music but I’m going to say Enrique Iglesias – Insomniac album (because I love this album); The judds – Number One Hits album (because my mum introduced me to them) and Runrig – Greatest Hits because my dad introduced me to them and he passed away in 2005 and Runrig makes me think of him.

Alan Tottle
PROGRAMME CONTROLLER
When did you join GHR? August 2025
How did you get involved and why?
I live locally to the station and wanted to get involved in local volunteering.
Tell us a few interesting facts about yourself
I trained as an accountant but have been working within internal audit for most of my career. I am also an accredited counter fraud specialist and have trained to level 4 of the First Response in Emergency Care.
Who or was has been your greatest inspiration?
It has to be my Mum who sadly died at an early age. She had a tough upbringing as a child in Hong Kong but did everything for us. She met my Dad who was in the Royal Navy when he was stationed in Hong Kong.
Who would you have most liked to meet but never did?
My Mum’s parents. They both lived in Hong Kong. My Grandfather passed away before I was born, and my Grandmother died but Mum could not afford to go back for the funeral and in those days found out by letter.
What are your three desert island discs?
1. Roxette – Joyride – just a classic song from my late teens/early twenties
2. Snow Patrol – Chasing Cars – I have the well know line on a board above my bed.
3. Neil Diamond & Barbra Streisand – You Don’t Bring Me Flowers – brings back memories of my youth living at home with Mum and Dad
