Dame Caroline Dinenage has today taken part in a ceremony to confirm her as the Member of Parliament for Gosport.

Caroline swore on the Bible that she would remain faithful to King Charles, his heirs, and successors “according to the law, so help me God”, in a ceremony on the floor of the House of Commons.

Lindsey Hoyle, Member of Parliament for Chorley, was elected Speaker of the House of Commons by the whole House on the same day.

Parliament now waits for the State Opening of Parliament and the King’s Speech on Wednesday 17th July, which marks the beginning of the new Parliament.

Speaking after taking the oath, Caroline said: “I am humbled and honoured to be confirmed as the Member of Parliament for the Gosport constituency.

“Though this is not the first time I have taken part in this ceremony, it remains just as special as it has ever been.

“My attention firmly remains on standing up for people across the Gosport peninsula and being their strong champion in Westminster.”
