Brighton’s grit-pop trio, snake eyes, release new single ‘hottest day on record’ via Alcopop! Records. Pre-save here. The packaging around this release may be tongue in cheek but there’s no messing about with the subject matter. Raising vital funds for Greenpeace UK and Music Declares, this single is released ahead of the band’s highly anticipated slot at 2000trees Festival followed by a string of live dates across UK and EU. All dates can be found here. The band are also pleased to be announced as ambassadors for Music Declares on the day of the single release (news embargo until 9am 9th July).

Since their inception in 2020, snake eyes have rapidly garnered support from places such as Kerrang!, BBC Radio 1 (Rock Show, Future Alternative), BBC 6music (Amy Lamé), Radio X, Clash, Noizee, Fred Perry, Rock Sound and Distorted Sound. Their new single is now set to premiere on BBC Radio 1’s Future Alternative show, hosted by Nels Hylton on the day of release.

“The climate crisis is real and the big companies and governments, ours included, are not doing enough to combat it” say snake eyes when speaking of the choice to make this a charity single. “How many more wildfires or floods have to happen before enough is enough? This isn’t something you can sit on the fence about. No music on a dead planet, innit”

snake eyes are a band that have always been environmentally cautious. Whether that be no single use plastic on riders, carrying their own bottles and cutlery to shows, merch being environmentally sourced or using eco-friendly materials etc. This has now resulted in the band being announced as ambassadors for Music Declares on the day of their single release (news embargo until 9am on Tuesday 9th July).

“Beyond political voting we all vote every single day using our wallets,” says snake eyes. “All profits from this single are being donated to Greenpeace UK and Music Declares. Greenpeace does incredible work both physically and by creating important petitions and infographics, combating big corporations and holding them accountable for their actions. The information they share really is invaluable at this time. The Music Declares “No Music On a Dead Planet” campaign has also been super effective in spreading such an important message amongst musicians and fans alike. We love how simple, direct and relatable it is”

With new bass player Sophie Douglas joining the group, the track was produced and mixed by the trio between their living rooms and rehearsal space. With an overall aim to make this single feel more raucous and match their energy as a live band, the track is shouty, fizzy and loud- much like their Kerrang! supported skeletons EP which was recorded in the same way. This release has once again captured that early 90s blur sound, or as the band describe it “the “fuck it all” garage rock vibe”.

After spending the start of 2024 working on new material, the group couldn’t resist cramming in a number of packed headline shows, a tour with October Drift and sets at Beach Motel Van Cleef, Stag and Dagger, Sniester Festival and a handful of Alt-Escape shows in Brighton. For the remainder of 2024, the trio will play Down the Rabbit Hole, 2000 Trees, Truck, Burger Jam and Tramlines Fringe before heading out to Germany for some of the biggest shows of their career to date. Having previously gone on a co-headline tour with James and The Cold Gun for Music Venue Trust Revive Live and supported the likes of Bad Nerves, Hotwax, Press Club, Indoor Pets, Gender Roles, Cheek Face, Sick Joy, Delta Sleep, Snayx, The Xcerts, Trophy Eyes and Don Broco, the band’s 2024 is shaping up already with headline shows and festivals ahead of tracking their debut album.

snake eyes’ main purpose as a group is to forge a bond with like-minded individuals who find comfort and joy in their music. On top of this, their passion for making change has been packaged up as a charity single. A call to action on climate change, snake eyes are here to make a difference, and burst your eardrums at the same time.
